The Experiential Learning Team is available to help you find ways to be successful and thrive at UC San Diego. We want to support you as best we can as you explore different experiential learning opportunities, whether that be providing direct support or finding the right resources to direct you toward!

  • Rochelle Smarr, Ed.D.

    Rochelle Smarr, Ed.D.

    Rochelle Smarr, Ed.D., is the Director of Experiential Learning at UC San Diego. Dr. Smarr leads Experiential Learning initiatives to increase student awareness and participation in engaged learning opportunities beyond the classroom across campus and within community spaces, such as the UC Washington (UCDC) program, Academic Internships, and the Co-Curricular Record, an extra-curricular activity transcript. Since 2013 she has held roles in the field of community engagement with Students First - New York, City College of New York, Cornell University, University of Pennsylvania and California State University, San Marcos. She has facilitated two international community service-learning trips to the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.  
  • Brian Crie

    Brian Crie

    Brian Crie (he/they) is a first-generation college graduate and an alum from UC San Diego, where he received his BS in Chemical Engineering. He received his MA in Education with a specialization in College Counseling and Student Development from Point Loma Nazarene University, where he researched the impact of critical reflection on student sense of belonging. Brian is passionate about finding ways to allow students to be their authentic selves personally and professionally. He is excited to create change on campus to enrich the campus community, making a more equitable learning environment. 
  • Tricia Taylor-Oliveira

    Tricia Taylor-Oliveira

    Tricia Taylor-Oliveira is Senior Program Director, Academic Internship Program (AIP) at UC San Diego. Tricia manages the development of AIP’s partnerships with faculty, departments, and community organizations, and advises students seeking opportunities to connect their studies with real-world experience. Having benefited from her own internship experiences, she enjoys empowering students to take ownership of their own development and experience the personal, professional and academic value of engaging in hands-on learning. Tricia earned her M.A. in Counseling from the University of San Diego and joined AIP in 2002 after working with the Center for Creative Leadership in La Jolla. 
  • Keith Tindall

    Keith Tindall

    Keith Tindall (he/him), is an Experiential Learning Specialist at UC San Diego, with a specific focus on coordinating and managing the UC Washington Center (UCDC) program. Keith received his Master's Degree in Student Affairs Administration from Michigan State University, where he served as a Graduate Assistant Community Director and completed internships as an Academic Advisor and Career Advisor. Keith also received his Bachelor's Degree in Spanish from Michigan State University.

    Laszlo Folks

    Laszlo is one of the Experiential Learning Specialists at UC San Diego, responsible for spreading awareness of and managing the Co-Curricular Record (CCR), in addition to supporting the UC Washington Center (UCDC) program and wider experiential learning initiatives of UCSD. He is thrilled to be back at UC San Diego where he started his undergraduate journey years ago.
