Anna Zhao - Content Tutor, 2024-2025
What motivated you to start participating in CCR-approved activities, and how did you first learn about the CCR?
I first learned about the Content Tutoring role when I received an email about it during the end of Fall Quarter my second year. Growing up I never had any job experiences due to cultural differences as my parents believed it's important for students to solely focus on school. Hence, I wanted to experience this sometime in university and this was the perfect opportunity. I had previously unofficially tutored people and also held leadership positions in various clubs with my peers in high school, so I felt that this job would be a great starting point for me.
How have your CCR experiences contributed to your personal growth or career development?
As a content tutor, our goal is to assist our peers not just in understanding the content in their classes, but also creating a safe and welcoming environment where they feel comfortable asking for help.
This has made me a more considerate person by acknowledging that everyone has different hardships and that it's okay to ask for help instead of trying to figure out everything yourself.
At this job we use various communication skills including email, Microsoft Teams, Google Drive, etc. and knowing when to communicate with others with which platform is an essential skill to have.
What advice would you give to new students about how to maximize the benefits of the CCR throughout their time at UCSD?
It never hurts to try out any of the opportunities. No matter what happens, it will at least be a good experience and definitely help you out in future professional environments. Also do not be afraid to reach out to the staff as they understand you are students and are here to help you as well!
