Competency Description
Identifies important problems and questions and gathers, analyzes, evaluates information from a variety of sources before forming a strategy, decision, or opinion.
Examples
A select list of activities (with descriptions) in the CCR that are associated with the Critical Thinking/Problem Solving competency:
- Teaching Assistant (Carpentries Workshop)
- Supported instructors during Carpentries workshops and provided one-on-one assistance to participants through Q/A and troubleshooting during live sessions focused on coding (Python and/or R), utilizing software tools, and/or implementing data management best practices.
- UI/UX Researcher (Diabetes Design Initiative, School of Medicine)
- Worked with stakeholders to design prototypes, managed a project, participated in student meetings, served as a resource for fellow students, acted as a peer mentor for incoming students, referred students to resources, and facilitated design workshops, user interviews, and presentations to the community and industry stakeholders.
- Academic Chair (Scholars Society Board, Undergraduate Research Hub)
- Organized a minimum of three events each quarter pertaining to professional or academic development, communicated with UCSD faculty about potential opportunities, and planned the Scholars Society Legacy Lecture.
- Board Member (Education Studies Student Association EDSSA)
- Planned and managed meetings, events, and all associated logistics, fundraising, and advertising, set an example for positive organization membership, communicated with Education Studies staff, and served the department through production of materials.
